Seagulls at the shed of the Takapuna Boating Club—a club that turned 100 in 2020. The shed is a little distance away from the club.

The Takapuna Boating Club was originally the Bayswater Boating Club. However, times changed and an Olympic sailing course was needed.need a The large circle of clear water was something Shoal Bay, near Bayswater, didn’t possess. Bayswater was also very tidal and was also home to many moored yachts and launches.

Hence the decision was made to move racing to off Takapuna Beach. The council worked hard to find the club a new home at Takapuna yet this move only came about around 1990.

An inventive little device allows the fuel to go right into the tank without any fuss.

The buoys being inflated. They’ll then be taken out onto the water and placed based on GPS co-ordinates in preparation for racing. It usually takes about 15 minutes to get the markers in place on the water.
